Youth Ministry Object Leson – Flying Disc Iples

Flying Disc Games (Commonly called Frisbees).

[NOTE: For some games, to avoid injury, you may wish to use a soft nerf style flying disc rather than a hard plastic one.]

  • Bocce FrisbeeYou must get your Frisbee to the designated object without touching it. You can make it harder by increasing your throwing distance.
  • BottlesIn a straight line, two teams of six will face off with one another. Every player must have a empty soda can in their hands. Each player has three lives. Players lose one life for every bottle that is knocked down. Each team is given three discs. Players must throw the discs from behind their bottles. If a player has lost all three of their lives they must immediately sit down. Each player has the right to retrieve the discs from between their teams. But they are not allowed to go beyond enemy lines. A disc cannot be blocked and a moving disc cannot be touched until it passes through the bottle line.
  • You can call itCircles can be made by any size group. The disc is thrown straight up by one person, flat or with spin. You must catch the disc with one hand. Everyone who attempted to catch the disc with one hand must abandon the circle if it is captured. The server is the one who caught the disc. They are prohibited from catching their own serves. The game goes on until there is only one player left. A third person can serve as the server if the match becomes violent between the two of you. If one of the players refuses to attempt to catch the disc, a rule may be in place that will make the server forfeit.
  • Circle of the Disc DodgeYou will need to make a circle of three players, with one person in the center. The circle should be wide enough to allow at least 10 feet between the player in the middle and the other players. A person at the center tries to dodge any throws. To flank someone, people in the circle may throw at them or toss their weight to them. The person at the center of the circle is the one you should hit. As long as the disc is available, play will continue. Avoid injuries by using a soft nerf disk.
  • Dodge discThe thrower is the only one. All the others are in a box with cones. Size of each box will depend on how many people there are. Once the disc has been released, each player must determine if they can catch or not. You must catch the disc if you want to move. Every catch counts as a point. To become the thrower, you must have 3 points. You’re out if you don’t move, if you miss the disc or you do not catch it. You can go to the Mac line once you’re out. You can either go to the Mac line and request a disc for someone who is playing in the game or hit the box with the disc to target other players. Once you have maced the disc to someone, you’re out. However, Bidding for discs was also permitted. Not everyone has this option.
  • Ball for Disc DodgeYou can play dodge ball with frisbees. The tosser is out of reach if the head shot misses.
  • Disc GolfA flying disc is used to play disc golf. “Frisbee”It is possible to. The targets and holes in disc golf can be anything: a tree or rubbish bin, a lamppost, a bucket or a pot of flowers, or even the patch of sidewalk. You must aim for the target from where it lands. The goal is to hit the target as quickly and efficiently as possible. Special conditions may be added, such as requiring that the disc must go through a branch or around a tree to hit the target. The target for a hole is usually the one that hits the trunk of the lowest tree branch. Leaves and branches are not considered. A marked course can be used, or someone can pick the next target after every hole.
  • DiscathalonA trail runs through an open space or park, passing natural obstacles along the way to a finishing line. The youth race towards the end of the route by throwing a disc. Every throw should be made from the spot where the disc stopped. The disc that crosses the finish line the fastest is the winner.
  • Five Hundred– The groups are separated by about 20m. The high-discharge group throws the disc higher than the others. One person who is able to catch the high disc earns 100 points. This group will throw another throwback and try to score as many points as possible. The person who scores 500 points the most wins. There is no contact; pushing or holding are not allowed.
  • Frisbee BowlingA plastic bottle is required for this game. You can flip it over and insert the neck in the sand. You can try to knock the bottle over using your frisbee. You can challenge yourself to add more bottles to the sand. See how many of them you can manage.
  • Frisbee RelayThis relay race can accommodate 8-12 participants and is divided into 2 teams. You will need two Frisbees, one for each of the teams. Every team must spread their feet out about 50ft (or more), apart. You can also play on “GO!”Each team’s first line member throws the Frisbee. This person lets the Frisbee land and then goes back to throw it to the second person. Frisbee is thrown to the nearest person (to their last line member) and the object of this game is to find the team that can get it the farthest.
  • GritzGritz is played on regular volleyball courts and has scores that are similar to volleyball. (Scores on serve, 3 hits max, rotation). Players can’t touch the ground or the disc at the same time. At the time of release, the disc should not travel downwards. The disk must not be thrown perpendicular or overhand.
  • In the middle: MonkeysWith the four cones, create a rectangle of 20m. To keep possession of the disc, pass to your teammates as often as possible. Like ultimate, disc players cannot run or hold the disc for more than 10 second.
  • Passing RelaySplit the youth into two teams. The teams should form a straight line with arms at least an inch apart. You will need a disc about half-way down the line. You can now move on “go”The final player of the line will run out to the disc, grab it and pass it along to the next player. He passes it on to the next player until the end. Once the last player has caught the disc they will run to the front, becoming the one who tosses the frisbee. The previous captain then runs back to the front, becoming the first receiver. A player must retrieve the disc from their own place and throw the return pass. Then, continue until the first captain is back at the front. After that, the entire team will sit down and finish.
  • Rounders (Disc Baseball).Establish a baseball-style diamond. Similar to baseball’s rules, the position is also similar except for the absence of a pitcher. The batter must be within 5 metres of all the players. Each play the batter throws the disc to the home base, keeping the ball within the bounds. The disc must travel at most 5 meters or it will be considered foul. If the batter’s toss gets caught, or on their third foul, they are out. The runners are out when the disc hits the base that they’re running toward before them. One runner may be at one base at any given time. The basemen are the only ones who can run with the disc. Everyone else has to throw it to others. Every time a runner runs between the bases, he or she reaches homebase, the batting side earns one run. If the batting team scores 3 runs, the teams move to the next position.
  • Sidewalk SevenFrisbee is played on sidewalks, often on the way from somewhere. Two to three people are the best. Every player has to throw one frisbee. They must try and land the ball within a designated sidewalk area. One point is awarded for each square the frisbee touches that’s not in the path of the player. If the frisbee measures more than half an inch, it will be considered within that square. The player loses points if the frisbee lands on the sidewalk. The player gets zero points if the frisbee is seven spaces away.
  • Statue FrisbeeYou can pair up with two other people. You can count how many consecutive times you catch the Frisbee while not moving your feet. Advanced rules: Use a clock to count the points. Every catch is worth one point. Two points are earned for each catch that is caught under the leg or at the tips of your fingers. If the buzzer rings the winning team wins. Variation: The partner that catches it with their eyes closed will take a step back if they don’t move. The game ends if a player drops or needs to move their feet. Each team has to take one step back after each round. Winner is the one who lasts for the most time.
  • Race ThrowingDivide the youth into two pairs. Each pair is competing against each other. The youth must line up in pairs across their partners, so all of them are in the same row. The youth must make as many passes in the time allowed. The pairs have to return to their starting positions if a disc is lost or must be recovered. You can make the task more challenging by requiring that the receiver not move in order to catch the disc.
  • You can touch itThe line is made up of a number of players, with one at each end. Players throw the disc down the line. They must catch it and touch it. The receiver then has to catch it with one hand. You win the round if it is caught and touched successfully. If it falls on the receiver’s chest, it will be thrown down the line. Continue rounds, knocking out each of the remaining X. Or, you can do it with points.

MOST OF THE LESSONS ARE APPLIED FOR THIS GAME

UltimateThe Field has a rectangular shape and ends at both sides. An official regulation field has dimensions of 64mx37m, and 18m depth. The point starts with the teams lining up at their respective end zones. After the defense throws the disc, the offense takes it. Each time an offense passes in the defense’s endzone, a point is earned. It can be handed to another teammate, in any direction. Disciples may not be run by the players. Only the person holding the disc can throw it for ten seconds. The 10 second time limit is counted by the defender who watches the thrower. If a throw is not complete (e.g. If a pass is incomplete (e.g. No one is allowed to make any physical contact between the players regardless of whether they are carrying the disc. Foul contact is when one player touches another. If the turnover results in the loss of the disc, that team will get the disc back. Each player can call his own fouls.

TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST LEVEL

* What comparisons can you make between this game and and living as a Christian?

These are some things we can see in Ultimate that have spiritual similarities:

(Running, Standing firm, a Goal. Struggle. Opposition. Spectators. Teamwork. Passing it on. Fouls.

Golf Swing Speed Challenge

  • It is passed onThe gospel or faith must be passed on in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Field– The field we are working in is the entire world (Mat. Our goal is to make it a place for Jesus Christ. Everybody is invited onto the field and must work together. Your team must be able to rely upon each other to get the job done.
  • RulesRules keep us on track and help set standards in how we behave on the field. They also have boundaries. There are also penalties for breaking the rules and stepping out of bounds. If we comply with the rules and prevail, however, we’ll be awarded a reward (1 Corinthians 9.24-24-27).
  • TimeIt is not possible to know the time that we are spending on the field in most final games. We need to maximize our time. According to the Bible, we are to redeem time (Ephesians 5-16), and to take advantage of all opportunities.
  • ZielIt’s not enough just to be there. You cannot simply win against the opposition. We want to get one for our team. Then another. Yet another. “Press on toward the Goal.” – Philippians 3:14.
  • The TeamPlay as a team, not alone. Ultimate requires that you hold onto the disc and give it to another player. It’s impossible to do this alone. Each believer can play a role in pursuing the goal (Cor 12:4-6, 12-20).
  • Both offense and defense– We must sometimes be in on the offense and defend at times.
  • Your actions have an impact on othersDropping the disc while playing is a foul and the possession becomes the property of the opposing team. You, your teammates and the rest are subject to the same consequences. The defense team must also run along the entire field.
  • FloggingSometimes, you are not responsible for bad things that happen in the game. The truth can be called out by you, however the game will continue.
  • Taking risksSometimes it is necessary to take some risks in order to accomplish your goals. You can push yourself harder and stretch to achieve the goal. If you are unable or unwilling to do so, it is best for your team that someone takes over. Similar principles apply to our walks and evangelism. It usually takes twenty interactions for someone to accept Christ. While some skills can seem awkward and awkward initially, we are able to improve our abilities with practice.

You can make it real

  • These are the challenges we face in this game, which reminded us of Christian struggles. In evangelism?
  • What is this similarity between the game and the Body of Christ?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 3-9. What does it have to do with the game?

Take it personal

Is your team in it?

None of the people in the crowd makes it to the goal. None of the spectators ever contributes even one point to score. Only the players are allowed to play and win the game. Is your role as a spectator or participant in the game? Being a Christian doesn’t suffice. Your calling is to play on the field. Not in the stands. Is your focus on watching and not playing? It is getting close to the end, and there is no time left. Grab your opportunity to win before it’s too late!

SCRIPTURE

  • 1 Corinthians 9 :24-27 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
  • Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
  • Philippians 3:12-14 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:5 “Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.”
  • 2 Timothy 4:7-8 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
  • 1 Corinthians 3.4-9 (NIV). “I follow Paul,”One, and the other. “I follow Apollos,”Are you not just human beings? Apollos, what is it? What is Paul? Only through servants that you have come to faith in the Lord. Apollos watered the seed and I planted it. But God is making it grow. The one who watered and the one who plants are not the same thing. It is only God who grows things. Both the person who plants and those who water have one goal, and each will be rewarded for their efforts. We are all co-workers at God’s service. You are God’s field and God’s building.
  • 1 Corinthians 12-20 (NIV). “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free, and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “The body doesn’t have me because I amn’t a hand.” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Since I’m not an eye I don’t belong to the body.” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.”
  • 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV) – “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
  • Philippians 4:9 (NIV) – “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
