Many golf courses provide golf cart rental, which is a good option for those who have less skill, are injured, or want to play quickly. If you aren’t familiar with them, it may not be as easy as the casual observer might think. Continue reading to learn more about the best golf cart tips and tricks.
READ the rules for your cart course. You should ensure you are familiar with the rules and that they apply to your game. These rules are usually found on the back or at the clubhouse.
DO STAY ON THE paved paths for golf carts. You must keep your cart in the designated areas, regardless of what else you’ve been instructed.
DO be aware of the 90-degree rule. A few courses let carts drive on the fairway but at a 90 degree angle. This helps minimize the amount of damage the cart can cause to the grass. You should keep your cart on the pavement until your ball is located. Then you may drive onto the fairway but at a 90 degree angle to the laneway. Once you have made the shot, drive back on the paved road.
Don’t let your hands touch the wheel while it is moving. This can be dangerous.
DO NOT accelerate to make turns. The speed at which golf carts tip over is faster than my ability to finish a dessert buffet.
DO NOT think that a golf cart can drive like a car. You won’t find it does. It doesn’t. The engine power and ignition are drastically different. And, perhaps most important, the steering is also different. You should remember that this SUV is not an all-terrain vehicle. Take it slow and easy.
TIP your cart attendant at least two dollars. If you don’t plan to be on a public course, or an event without dress codes, tipping your cart attendant is a good idea. A cart attendant usually cleans out the cart and returns it to the garage. Then, they will drive you back to your car with your clubs. Tip a little extra if the attendant cleans your cart and returns it to the garage.
Don’t get caught in lightning storms. If you see lightning flashing, get to your clubhouse immediately. However, don’t take refuge in your golf cart.
