Cleveland Classic Tour Driver Review

For 2012, the Cleveland Classic Tour Driver has a new design and features cool shaft upgrades. It’s not a problem that the club head is strange. It’s gold on the head and burgundy at the top. Without a brand as solid and reliable like Cleveland, I doubt I’d be tempted to buy it. After four rounds, I am very happy with it. In fact, I would consider changing it to my Titleist 910 driver.

Cleveland Classic Tour is the largest and most compact of all three Cleveland Drivers. There are also the 290, 270 and 277. These are more lightweight and forgiving. They’re probably best suited to slower golfers.

Because my swing speed is 110 mph I chose the Tour version which weighs in at 310g.

There are three lofts that the Cleveland Classic driver can choose from: 8.5, 10.5 and 9.5 degrees. Because I prefer 9.5 degrees, the loft selection worked well for me. Miyazaki Kusala black, 61 grams is the stock shaft. Because the head measures only 440cc it is slightly smaller than an average driver’s 460 degree. Despite that, the Classic Tour is very forgiven. It’s Cleveland’s heaviest driver, with D4 being the swing weight.

Evidently, this driver is different. It could be a marketing strategy that makes the driver seem ‘old-fashioned’. As Taylormade and Cobra have already taken the white club heads, Cleveland cannot really use them. Many people like the Cleveland Classic clubhead. But I discovered that it was more important to be comfortable with the appearance of the Cleveland Classic club head than to ‘love it’ right out of the bag. You should accept the fact that some of your friends will occasionally ask “What’s the deal with that?” and you should be able get along with Classics’ classic looks. The looks are a 9.5/10.

Golf Swing Speed Challenge

It felt as though the Cleveland Classic Tour had a lot of power. This golf club was addictive! You could smash it off of every tee. It was a great shaft combination! Miyazaki Kusala Black72x-stiff was my shaft. It felt extremely solid at impact. The stiff tip on the Miyazaki allowed me to hit the ball hard without fear of it ballooning. It would be a 9/10.

DistanceYou can find this link:

This driver has a huge range. This driver really can fly far. This is due to the shaft combination. Perfect combination of classic tour features and the solid feeling of the Classic Tour, paired with low spinning Miyazakis that launch low is a perfect match. A match made in heaven. Cleveland has clearly gone to great lengths to make their sledgehammer one of the most reliable in distance driving. This car was definitely 10/10.

Ball flightYou can find this link:

It was simply amazing to witness the ball fly from the Cleveland Classic. Direct and powerful. This is even more powerful than my Titleist. I think it was the most direct ball flight I have ever had. I enjoyed a low spin with the Miyazaki shaft. What makes this driver different than most is the fact that it keeps going to the target even when it reaches it’s highest point. Ball flight 10/10

SummaryThis is a great piece of equipment if you are able to stomach its looks. The market price is around mid-priced. This is my view. This product is great value. The resale values will never be lower if there is a shaft installed. 8/10
