Winterization of Golf Game

It is important to keep your game at its best for those who live in the east and north.  These are some simple tips that you can do to make sure your game is always on point.  Although it takes only a few minutes, the results have been amazing for many.

Growing up in the Midwest, and then moving to Lake Michigan, made me fully aware of the difficulties faced by golfers living in winter-snowbound areas.  There are many factors that can drastically reduce your season.  The following sections will provide some tips and tricks to help you keep your winter game healthy.  Your 2010 golf season will produce far greater results than what you might expect.

Here is a quick list.

Save $8.00 for each week over the next 14-weeks. Why? NEW GRIPS Heat has this dreaded effect on golf grips, it drys them out, makes them brittle and slick.  You should change your grips at least once per year AT the BEGINNING of the SEASON. Make sure before you put your clubs away for the winter, you clean them thoroughly…especially the grooves!  Use warm soapy water, a toothbrush and an old toothbrush to clean your clubs.  After drying them, wrap them in saran wrap.  You can keep any rust off your clubs by wrapping them in saranwrap.  Yes, there will be some who say stainless steel doesn’t rust…Perhaps pigs are able to fly.  Many clubs have some type of chrome coating.

You won’t even need another brush for the winter.  You could also seal your clubs with paraffin wax, but this will require more work.  This is done by heating the wax, then placing each club into it and drying it.  You can then peel off the wax when the season is over.  Although it sounds tedious, this is a good idea.  Don’t give your wife any good pots if you make this decision.  These people have a tendency to get annoyed by it.  Buy a pan at a dollar store.  Either that, or you could end up eating wax for dinner once or twice.

Your golf bag can be kept dry by being stored in a bag.  You might be able to take a short vacation in a more pleasant climate for some good golf.  The wax in the saucepan case is another option. This is the time for your golf game.  You have more bullets, grin.

Golf Swing Speed Challenge

You can buy a wooden 3/4 inch dowel at your local hardware store.  You can wrap one end with guazetex.  The length of the rope should be approximately 2 feet.  You can be working on your grip while you are at home watching golf or even tuning in to the channel.  It is about the same width as a grip.  Guazetex gives you the flexibility to keep it in place.  Your spouse will appreciate you not leaving your golf clubs around the house during winter.

You can also improve your grip by holding it steady for at least 30 seconds.  You’ll be stronger in your arms and hands so it will make it easy to transfer to your clubs once the season is over.  Everyone is telling you to hold the club with your hands.  My next article will focus on gripping the club with pressure and grip.  It’s not as simple as you might think.  You can see it.

Putt on your shoes.  You will be amazed at the difference it makes to your score and golf game.  You will never tire of shag flooring, which I have not seen in what seems like forever.  As your target, use a dime to roll the ball.  You hit the ball too hard if your ball goes beyond 12 inches of the dime.  The drill for this one is well-known.

This is a great way to get around the rules.  My Disclaimer to all on this is…NO FULL SWINGS, and NO CARPET DIVOTS.  You took my advice, and tore down the carpet. I do not want to be lynched by a lot of women..  You are not trying to get the ball high. SOME can learn some touch and others just keep it.  You will learn a lot.  You will need to know how to remove the ball without damaging it and prevent the balls from hitting the floor.  You will find a detailed article about chipping later.
