For many aspiring golfers, it will be difficult to get a straight line drive down their middle. They will be able to hook and slice some. But consistency is the key, which is sometimes overlooked. If you are able to score 90, even with a slight slice, and even 100 if the hook is medium-sized, it’s possible to comfortably hit that number. This is why consistency should be our main focus. When our performance on the golf course is consistent, then we can make small changes to improve it. There are four basic steps to success with consistency.
1. Strive to create a consistent swing
It is important to practice the strokes under identical conditions. You should aim for 75% of your maximum power to ensure that you are in balance during the stroke. Although rhythm is difficult to master in golf, it can be taught. It’s a fluid, smooth motion with no twisting or jerking. It also involves a coordination between body movements and rhythm. You may not be able to find rhythm in your down swing if your hips move before and after. A wood is a better choice than a club because they can be longer and heavier. If you find your own rhythm, you will be able to replicate it easily with the other clubs.
2) Core Muscle Training
It might seem strange that you would want to improve your golf swing by exercising. Your muscles play an important role in your every day activities, including when you are swinging. To ensure all your muscles are firing at the same speed, it is important to exercise the muscles that you use in swinging. The abdominals, the obliques, and the muscles of your back are all included in this category. It is a good idea to consult your physician before you start any type of exercise program. Also, it’s advisable that you slowly build up and slow down. Once you have worked out for a few weeks, your body should become more flexible and allow you to exercise with greater control.
Three) Compensate Your Swing
If you find your consistency in golf swinging, there is likely to be some amount of slice or hook. That’s okay. You should aim to make the ball curve when driving. Your hook and slice should be very large. If they are, it’s time to reassess your swing. Go back to 75% for smoothness.
4) Practiced Improvement
The next step is to objectively evaluate your swing. This will allow you to see how the clubface actually touches the ball. Start by taking your consistent (and standard) swing, and stopping at the point where the ball would hit it. From there, you can observe everything around the head of club. This position will allow you to determine where the club would most likely touch the ball. These observations will help you to optimize the alignment of your ball, clubface and target.
You can improve the quality of your golf swing by developing consistent hitting techniques, even if it does not hook or slice as much. When your swing becomes consistent, you can begin to improve by only changing one part of it. This will allow you discover which elements work and those that need improvement.
