Improve your putting stroke
We will start with saying that 5-7 feet is the longest putt we can expect to make and yet are most difficult to hit. These are the ones we should improve upon. Anybody can putt a 3-footer. You can sink a 3 footer if you’re more than 8ft away.
We want to work on improving our 4 to 6 foot, 5 to 7, and 7 foot shots. The Pros sink only about half of their putts at 5-7 feet. This is something you should not be discouraged by. Let’s practice to improve our chances for success with the 5-7 foot shot.
You are now at your local practice putting course. Get a few balls, and let’s go! Toss the balls 5 to 6 feet from the hole. When we putt, two major factors will be our main focus. Our alignment and stroke.
For a good shot, alignment is crucial. Once we are happy with our alignment, it is possible to concentrate on the stroke.
You may have a slight problem with your alignment or stroke if you miss strait puts without break. You may not be hitting breaking put if your stroke is good but your speed might be poor. This drill requires that you find an area without breaks. Before we get into breaking putts, let’s first fix the strait putsts.
A wide range of putting aids are available. Odyssey’s 2-ball technology aids alignment, which I have already mentioned is the most crucial part of putting. The Odyssey putter can be quite costly, but you don’t need to pay $239 to learn how to putter well. A 2-Way Putter Alignment System, which I’ve found to be very useful and easy to use is the one that I prefer. This is a small, metal tool with a magnet that attaches directly to the existing head of your putter. It can be used for practice putting by being squared up above the ball, or left behind using the standard 2-Ball mode. For more information, please visit the 2-Way Putter Alignment System.
It is a good idea to practice with a putting aid. Because the 2-Ball technology can be so effective, I recommend either the Odyssey 2-Ball or 2-Way Putter Alignment System. A 2-Ball technology is able to detect imperfections in your putting stroke by letting the white circle pass through the stroke. If you want to improve your putting, this is invaluable feedback.
We’ll keep our two concerns in mind as we begin to put. Stroke alignment. Place the putter’s head as squarely towards the hole as possible. This is where the 2-Way can help. This is where the greatest problem lies in poor putting. It takes the most practice and effort to correct. The improvement in your putting will be enormous once you get the right alignment. Make sure your putter head is pointing back at the swing. Your body cannot have any movement toward or away.
We will now set a goal. The goal is to sink 50 feet in one row, from a distance of 4 to 7 feet. Although this will not be easy, it is possible. You must start again at 1 if you make a mistake.
It teaches you how to perform under pressure. As you reach the 40s, you’ll feel it. It will get intense and you’ll feel it. You have to keep pressing on to take the rest. This is pressure. You will be able to put your best foot forward.
Your stroke will improve and you’ll notice a greater confidence level in short putts. You can now step back up to 7, 8 and further with greater confidence in your putting abilities.
The putting drill can be used anywhere. It doesn’t matter if you’re at work, home, or playing around in your office. It is possible to practice on the rug. Alignment is key. You will soon be a skilled putter if you work on this and follow the techniques. Impressiveness is what it’s all about.
