Muscle Inbalances in Right-Handed Persons

A surprising observation that new clients often make is that their left arm is weaker than their right.

This is very normal. People who are right handed don’t often use their left hands in daily life. Their left hand falls behind if they don’t work on their strength.

This isn’t just about strength. The majority of the time, it is about endurance. We start training by focusing on strength and endurance. Our goal is to do 12-15 reps, starting with our weakest arm. Most people lift between 1-6 reps and the same weight. However, they feel fatigued if they do not train on their left arm.

It is good to know that this issue can resolve itself quickly. In just a few weeks muscles can recover and gain strength and endurance. While it is frustrating to realize that you have the power and ability to do more, once everything starts to add up, strength training can become much more enjoyable.

This is a funny fact. Left-handed people are more likely to use their left and right hands for everyday activities in a world that favors right-handedness.

Because we start on the dominant side, it’s easy to identify who is left-handed and who is right.

Don’t be concerned about muscle imbalances at the start. If you persevere, your arms will perform nearly equally quickly.
