“The Shank”It’s also known as “The Brits” by the Brits. “The Socket”The shot is sometimes referred to as the most ugly in golf. This is the moment you hit the ball with your bare hands. “hosel”The part of your golf club that connects the head and shaft. Instead of using the clubface to hit it, this is the piece of the club. The result is that your ball can fly extremely low and quickly, but often the correct direction.
Why does the Shank/Socket shot occur?
You can blame your swing for the problem, but it could also be caused by how you are set up. You have options. These tips will help you avoid embarrassment at the course.
Tip 1: Watch your head!
Do not drop your head toward the ball while swinging. This will make your head tilt towards the ball, causing the swing plane to shift and produce the Shank shot or The Socket shot. Keep your head still and relaxed when swinging.
Tip #2: Watch your Feet!
You don’t want your feet to sink when you go downswinging. You will be able to swing the ball forward by hitting the hosel. Distribute the weight evenly between the balls as well as the heels of your feet and maintain it throughout your swing.
Tip #3 Keep an eye on your hands!
Your hands and wrists should be in sync to help guide the club head towards the ball. If your wrists are slipping and breaking early on, your club head will flip toward the ball, and cause the Shank. This problem can be solved by ensuring your hands and wrists are in front of the ball. Also, make sure your wrists stay firm as your club head touches the ball. It is important not to make the ball too rigid so it doesn’t stop the cock moving naturally.
A short iron is excellent for shanking. You return the ball in your stance. In such cases, the ball should be placed forward of the right heel. Your club will have enough time to adjust before connecting with the ball. Rotating your arms and aiming towards the goal as you go down is another good tip. This will encourage square faces.
