Pressure can lead to poor shot selection and a failure to execute your backswing. Pressure can make us do things differently if we don’t have the right training. Pressure makes us too cautious. It cuts off the backswing, which is no way to score the great shot that you desire.
Your backswing is when everything returns to the point where it was at rest. Your hips, your spine, and even your hands are all away from the ball. This is good for your flexibility and swing mechanics.
What distance is this? If you play right handed golf, the ideal place for your leading arm (or left shoulder) is under your chin. This position is where your torso should be about 90 degrees. The hips should rotate half as fast, or slightly more. If your hips turn less than this, you could have lower back problems.
Your leading arm determines how much your arms move. Standing straight up, extend your arm out to the side at shoulder height and then swing it around. It should not be forced to stop at the end of its backswing.
If the wrists align themselves, you should keep your hands away from the ball. You should be aware of two types set. When viewed face-on, the other is called the cocking your wrists. It’s when the wrists bend sideways to align the club shaft with the lead arm.
This is the second type of set. It involves the backwards bending of the trailing hand. The leading wrist bends as far as necessary to maintain the same angle as at address.
These positions can be cut too short and will change the alignment of your swing. It may also make it harder, if impossible, for the clubface to align with the ball. You will get the shot you have been dreading.
You can maintain your normal backswing by thinking about it. You can’t guarantee anything. There is no reliable physical guarantee. The key to success is to keep your focus on what you need to do and what it might result in.
Relax and practice your swing until you feel the perfect swing. Your mind will be filled with the gentle rhythm and smooth flow. If you feel that way, then don’t be afraid to swing the ball. It will be all there and you will hit the shot that you want.
