Is your thinking linear or global?

First, understand the difference between a thinking style and a learning style to determine whether you’re a global or linear thinker. A learning style can be described as how you learn. Send an emailYou will receive new information. Tactile, Visual and Auditory are the three main learning styles.

A thinking style, however, is what you use to think. ProcessYour personal style of thinking is the best way to process and interpret new information. These thinking styles definitions will help you:

Linear STYLE (or Left-Brain Dominant)

When processing information, linear thinkers favor a structured approach. When instructions are presented in sequence (Steps A, Step B or Step C), it will be easier for linear thinkers to follow. Strong linear thinkers feel more at ease starting “Step B”Only after “Step A”completed. In general, linear thinkers love structure and predictability. Linear-oriented subjects include Accounting and Mathematics.

GLOBALISTIC STYLE (or Right-Brain Dominant)

Thinkers from around the world (or “strategic thinkers”They are better at putting new information in context. People are also more patient with step-by-step directions and linear topics. They prefer to have all information immediately so that they can connect it to their larger goals. English Literature, Philosophy and English Literature can be considered global-oriented.

These are just two examples that illustrate how different types of thinkers can approach the same task in different ways.

Plan a road trip

The road trip will be planned by Strong Linear Thinkers. They will decide which routes to take, where to find restaurants, and what items they need to pack.

The Global Thinkers are the ones who get behind the wheel and take control of their destiny.

Assembling Furniture or Toys.

Linear thinkers can lay out the pieces neatly and carefully read through the instructions before they start to assemble.

Global Thinkers will examine a photograph of the finished product, and then attempt to put it all together in a jigsaw style (e.g. “this piece looks like it fits here, this piece probably goes here… “).

THINK AROUND IT

It would not be possible for someone to have only one style of thinking and be able function in today’s complex world. You will eventually need both dominant and complementary styles in order to accomplish certain tasks. You must have linear skills in order to determine how much you should tip your waitress or waiter (if you don’t use smartphone apps). Global skills are also required to assess the quality and quantity of services provided.

STILL THINK

How do you enjoy playing games? How easy was it for you to master the part of the game? You’ll see that everything you do has a personal approach to it. If a golfer has a strong linear style of thinking, they will probably have a specific routine that they follow before every swing. They also tend to be more focused on the mechanics. An individual who has a more global mindset may have greater success. “feel”And pay more attention to details in the swing. It doesn’t necessarily have to be just a sport. You can make it a hobby or even a job. Your personal style of thinking is your natural ability to think in a certain way.

What about the boring and difficult tasks that you avoid? First, examine your methods for completing the task. It is possible that you are using an instruction technique from someone else. This technique may work for the instructor but not your way of thinking.

Consider what your ultimate goal is when you complete a task. Then, rethink the entire process by using your unique thinking style. Although it might seem awkward initially, because of our habitual follow-through, making small adjustments as the task progresses will make the change to your style easier.

Consider, for instance, that you’re a global thinker with the ability to complete linear tasks such as bookkeeping. While a bookkeeping instructor can teach you how to ensure that the numbers are correct and balanced, you must also think about how these numbers could benefit your company. You can also look at the numbers and determine the reason that a particular expense cost more or the reason your revenue was not higher. It will make the task less boring if you use a longer-term strategic perspective in order to accomplish a linear task.

Let’s suppose you are a good linear thinker who must accomplish a globally-oriented task like developing marketing ideas. Marketing teams often have several global thinkers that like to give broad, unstructured ideas. You would be frustrated if you followed their path, as linear thinkers are more comfortable with structure and details. You should prepare a sheet for organizing, sorting and analysing all ideas. Because it gives you structure and predictability, this worksheet will allow linear thinkers to be more in control of their creative process. Even though it is unlikely that they will admit to it, your worksheet will help you and your fellow global thinkers stay focused on the same goal.

MAKE IT SIMPLE FOR YOURSELF

All of us will have to complete tasks beyond our ability to think. You have the option to use your strengths in thinking to make less-desirable tasks seem a bit more appealing. Don’t like details? These details can be put in context by the “big picture”So that they can be relevant to your goal. Unstructured environments are not your favorite environment to work in. You will feel more in control if you create your own step-by–step method for accomplishing your tasks.

You can also partner up with someone else who thinks differently. To complement one another’s way of thinking, global thinking managers frequently hire linear-oriented assistants. You can even benefit from different thinking styles in a marriage. A marriage that has both a global and linear mind can be a good mix of practicality and impulse.
