Barbados Holiday – 7 Great Sports Activities

Barbados is a great place to relax on the beaches. You can also choose to be active if you feel like it.

These suggestions, while not exhaustive, are the most effective.

1 Boating & Sailing

Many companies offer yacht charters. You can choose from scheduled or custom cruises.

Perfect weather and calm seas, combined with gentle southeasterly trade wind, will provide the perfect conditions for any type of sailing, water sport, or romantic sunset cruise.

2 Golf

Golf is the reason many tourists choose Barbados for their holiday. Barbados has four PGA-standard golf courses. It is a popular holiday destination for golfers. Sandy Lane on the west coast is where you will find two Tom Fazio-designed courses: The Country Club and The Green Monkey. Royal Westmoreland is home to a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course.

Two public courses are located on the South Coast: the Links-style course, Barbados Golf Club (6705 yards, par 72), and the 9-hole Club Rockley.

In the future, there are many more courses planned.

3 Sports Fishing

Barbados is known for its fishing culture. Many boats can be hired for half- or full-day charters. There are many species of fish in the waters surrounding Barbados. Fishing charters usually include tackle, bait, beverages and refreshments as well as transportation from and to your hotel.

Barbados hosts a large variety of sportfish including Blue Marlins, White Marlins, Sailfishes, Kingfishes, Kingfishes, Dorado, Barracuda and Bonita.

It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an experienced angler, it will be a fun time. Many charters can arrange for you to have your catch cooked or provide advice on how you might prepare it at home or in a restaurant nearby.

4 Parasailing

The Boatyard is a place to go for a truly unique experience. It’s located on the outskirts Bridgetown. You’ll fly high in the air by being strapped into an inflatable parachute and towed behind speedboats.

If you are really brave, consider joining the High Flyers Club and soaring up to 800ft.

Five Tips for Surfing

Many surfers choose Barbados as their first destination. Barbados is a top surfing destination due to its consistent surf conditions and steady swells throughout the year.

The north coast experiences a lot more swell in winter. However, east coast winds are constant and ensure that the coast is always able to break.

Bathsheba’s famous Soup Bowl is located on the East Coast. It is a well-known landmark and hosts many international competitions.

South Point is a great spot for surfing and hosts countless surfing competitions.

Six Windsurfing Tips

December through July are Barbados’ best months to learn windsurfing. Windsurfers love the south coast because it has consistent winds and waves, and trade winds between 15 and 35 knots. Every February, the Barbados Waterman Festival is held at Silver Rock Beach. There are perfect conditions for intermediate and beginner windsurfers between Maxwell and Hastings. You will also find a variety of accommodation, bars, restaurants and bars.

Sandy Beach (also known as Carib Beach) is the best spot to learn windsurf. The area is safe and calm, with a lagoon that’s shallow, as well as protected coral reefs offshore, making it ideal for beginners.

7 Snorkeling & Diving

Barbados is a great place to snorkel and dive, as it offers visibility from 80-98 feet (23-33.3m), most of the time.

You will find more than 20 dive spots between Barbados’s southern and western coasts. And the waters around Barbados’ west coast offer great snorkeling opportunities.

Coral reefs house a wide variety of wildlife, including turtles, barracudas and fish.

Off the coast of Six Men’s Bay, lies Pamir, a sunken cargo vessel. Off the coast of West Coast lies Stavronikita. This is a 120m (365ft) long Greek freighter. It was intentionally sunk at Fitts Village, in 1978.

Carlisle Bay is a natural harbour that was converted into a marine reserve just off Barbados’s southwest coast. On the seafloor, empty bottles can be found that have been left there over time by generations of sailors. There are also cannonballs and cannons along with anchors. You can even visit a couple of shipwrecks from 25-60ft (9-20m) all within a single dive.

If that’s not enough, Barbados also offers horse riding, kayaking, hiking and tennis. You can find whatever sport you are interested on your Barbados vacation.
