Your foot injury could have been caused by muscle strain or a more severe condition like Achilles Tendinitis or Plantar Fasciitis. Bad running shoes could also be causing foot pain.

Plantar Fasciitis

iliotibial or IT band is a tendon that attached your knee to the hip. Iliotibial Band Syndrome is a condition where your IT becomes swollen. Running down is a problem for runners, who feel a sharp pain in their knees. If left untreated, the pain can quickly become worse. To ease the pain, massage your quadriceps or hamstring muscles. You may also want to use a foam roll. Avoid running downhill, and don’t do it multiple times.

Runner’s Knee

Shin splints can be caused by an abrupt increase in training time or power. This problem is most common in new runners. It is important to rest and apply ice on the affected area. To get your feet used to your training method, don’t suddenly increase the intensity.
