It is difficult for any athlete in any sport to translate what they have learned about how to achieve something to their own goals. “feel”. To learn how to play a golf swing properly, you are required to perform a number of steps. Then we begin to plan our next move. Golf might have a harder time learning this than basketball players who are given little to no time for thinking. Golfers may do better if there was a time limit to their shots.
Many people who play golf regularly have felt that feeling of getting the shot. When we play well and focus on the golf course, it’s easy to feel that feeling. This is when we can get into the “zone”You will hit the ball more accurately than ever before. Invariably, something goes wrong. We start to analyze our swing. Is there a way to get into that zone and remain there more frequently?
It is important to change your mindset. When it comes to your game, don’t be too critical. You can save the analysis for the management of the course. There is more to the game than just navigating it properly. Don’t think about swinging when you play the course. Instead, focus on the practice area and the swing analysis.
There are two ways I can get the feel of the swing. This is what most people do when they are looking at the ball. Take the practice swing after you’ve lined up the shot behind the ball. Concentrate on only one thing, making solid contact with the ball. Once you are satisfied, take the ball up and swing again. Don’t worry about adding or subtracting anything.
A slightly different approach I take is one that doesn’t require the practice swing. As I line up my shot, I only visualize making contact with the ball. To muscle memory, I forget about all other aspects like back swing, takeaway, hip action and follow through. Many of us have played the club hundreds of times, so why would it need to be reminded yet again? The body will do what it knows naturally, and not let you know how to use your golf club. This does not mean it won’t work all the time. However, it helps us keep going out and trying again.
