Driving is Show and Putting it is Dough. Become a Better Putter

An old saying goes like this “Driving is for show and putting is for dough”. It’s a fact that is true in golf. The way golf is played makes it clear that even though you can drive the golf ball for 250 yards, you won’t be able to do so with just one swing. You will need to use 5 strokes to get the ball to the hole. Although there’s no perfect way to putt, these tips can help you improve your game. Who knows? You might even end up with the green jacket!

Solid putting is based on your grip and your posture. You should first place your fingertips lightly around the putter. Do not lift this weight to build muscle. If you are unsure how light a grip to use, try 60-70 percent of your usual grip strength. Your pinky finger should be sitting directly on the club. This is in contrast to interlocking or overlapping with a normal grip. You should never hold the club in an awkward position and you must be relaxed mentally and physically to properly address the ball.

In your relaxed state, make sure you address the golf ball properly by keeping the ball in front of your body and between your shoulders. While keeping your hands near the top, keep your focus on the bottom of the putter. As you do this you will begin to see the direction you wish your golf ball takes after contact. Visualize your golf ball entering the hole. This easy technique allows your swings to follow a natural, pendulum-like stroke at the putting line.

Your feet should be placed inside your hips, with your weight equally balanced towards your heels. Keep the ball in line with your stance. Incorrect addressing the golf ball may result in an inaccurate swing and a poor follow through.

You’re now ready to putt once you’ve achieved the correct grip and have your solid stance centered on the golf ball. This is known as the “sweet spot” and it is important to tap the ball with your putter. You should focus on making a smooth stroke and then follow it up with a forward motion. This will result in a good putt, or at the very least, a great shot.

Stress Free Golf Swing

When it comes to golf balls, the best advice I can give is to make sure you always have the exact same balls. There are many golf balls on the market, and not all of them are equal. The ball should be balanced using solid core materials, and the cover must have the same thickness throughout. You should always use the same brand of golf ball after you’ve found the one that suits your playing style.

The single most significant factor for dramatically improving your ability to put is practice. Putting is more than just putting the ball on the green. You should practice putting at different angles, and distances. Start by starting at 1 foot. As you become more proficient, go up to 2 feet , 3 feet, 5 feet , and 7 feet . You don’t have to sink every ball, but you should not be discouraged. Instead, try placing your golf ball consistently as close as possible to the cup.

Follow these easy tips to improve your putting skills and you’ll soon see a significant drop in your golf scores.
