I’ve never seen a golfer’s iron golf swing is as raw and as ugly as the one Joe Public performed at the 2021 US Open. Let’s just say it was not pretty. Let’s also say it lacked a little slice. This is the kind of swing where you’re really asking for trouble, no pun intended. It is truly raw and it really needs some time to get up to par.
There are many golfers who can’t understand why so many people go slow when it comes to improving their iron golf swing. First of all, this is an unnatural movement for the body. Your body was not made to perform this type of movement. Secondly, you have to be really fast with this swing in order to accomplish anything. Finally, most golfers simply can’t do it.

Most golfers are slow in their movements. They don’t move with the right timing and they’re off-time on their swings. There are some great golfers who move with the perfect timing and perfect body motion. You see these types of players all the time on the PGA tour, like Tom Watson or Rocco Mediate.

When you’re hitting longer shots with a lot of distance between you and the ball, they can work wonders. But if you’re just starting out, or you’re trying to learn new ways to swing your club, stay away from them. You don’t want to get into a habit where you’re always hitting incorrectly. This will only make your learning curve harder.
So what’s a good way to hit an iron shot properly? Well, I’d say just concentrate on swinging as naturally as possible. Swing your club as straight as you can, and as far off the ground as you can. Try doing these swings with varying lengths of clubs, until you find the one that feels the most comfortable. Then just keep doing this and you’ll soon be hitting the ball straight and farther. But remember, the key is to swing naturally.
Here’s another tip. Many golfers tend to focus on using their left arm and wrist to generate power and get the ball airborne. And while this can definitely help generate power, it’s also really important not to use it all the time. Using your left arm and wrist too much can lead to injuries, slow motion, and other bad golf habits. To help generate more power, try using both your left leg (with your thigh bone) and left arm at the same time.
Finally, let’s talk about teeing up your irons. If you’re going to tee off, try to use an iron that you’ve either already had your practice with, or ones that you haven’t had a chance to hit that much yet. Just get a few practice swings in with them, so that you’re sure you can do it correctly. You can use a little bit of weight but not too much. One thing to watch for is to have your feet spread apart a little. This will help you generate more power as you swing your club.
