Girls Lacrosse Transition Drill

A lacrosse team can become a true team when they learn how to pass effectively and quickly. To make defenses reset, the flow of the ball must change frequently. The pass doesn’t have to always be downfield. It can also be reversed or crossed. This drill was a great way to help my teams improve the effectiveness and speed of their passing.

Any size field is possible. You must get the ball across the field to either shoot or pass the goal line. It can be done with or without goalie. You can also score a point by simply passing the ball across the goal line.

Split the players into two teams and pin one team. Allow them to mark each other to play one-on-one. To draw a match, have them all spread out side-by-side.

After they have started, a player can hold the ball for only 3 seconds, before passing it. My screams are heard everywhere. “1 one-thousand, 2 one-thousand, 3 one-thousand!” If she has not passed off within 3 seconds, she and her entire team have to do 10 push-ups*. AND the other team receives the ball.

You need to keep score. If they’re competing, they work harder. Finale: The winner team performs 5 sprints followed by stops. A set of eight sprints is performed by the losing team. It all depends on the age of the participants.

*You could substitute in 10 walking lunges, 25 crunches, 20 bicycle abs, or 10 squat jumps after each team as done a few sets of the push-ups (so they don’t get sore/hurt).
