The History of Golf – Golfers Who Are Women

The Ladies Club of St. Andrew’s is the first club for ladies to be formed. However, it wasn’t until 1800s that women started to play golf. After Mary Queen of Scots, there aren’t many records that show women playing golf for more than a hundred years.

The first ever women’s tournament in golf was played at Musselburgh Golf Club, Scotland.

Histories of Women’s Golf Club

Due to their inability to play at other nearby courses, a Morristown group of women founded a seven-hole Golf Club. The first Women’s Golf Tournament is held here. The mistake was made by allowing men to join, and the club became a men’s golf club a few years later. The game of golf has evolved over the years thanks to the contributions made by women who played it throughout the centuries. Golf was not a popular sport among women until the Second World War.

The History of Golf Clothing for Women

Golfers of all ages faced some issues with their attire. Golfing required women to still wear a skirt. It was difficult for women to wear a skirt while golfing. The club could get caught up in their clothes and they didn’t have enough room to comfortably swing the clubs.

Ladies golf apparel was improved in 1904. This allowed them to concentrate more on the game and less about how their clothes restrictions might affect their performance. It was popularized by crocket players many years ago. A new free stroke coat has been introduced. It was created to give women greater freedom of movement when golfing.

It was becoming more acceptable to wear sleeveless blouses by the 60’s.

Women’s clubs tend to be one inch longer than those of men. Also, the shafts of women’s clubs tend to be more flexible. The assumption is that women’s swing speeds are slower than those of men. However, this was not always true. In the past you may have seen a pink club.

Like most things in life, golf has seen a lot of women improve and make a difference.
