How to build the perfect golf swing

The golf swing requires complex mechanics. This aside, the most problematic aspect of modern golf is not its swing. It’s actually the fearsome ‘paralysis through analysis’ that impedes natural golf swing flow.

A golfer should not buy golf books and magazines to help them get the club in the right position for their back swing. A golf swing should feel natural. From start to finish, it should flow smoothly and fluidly. Let’s now look at the five steps that will make your golf swing perfect.

1. Develop a pre shot routine

Pre-shot is the series of events which occurs immediately after your club is selected from your bag and just before your start your backswing. A consistent pre-shot regimen is important to keep you calm and focused before you begin your golf swing.

Begin by placing your golf clubs behind your ball. Next, visualize a line through your club that passes through your target. When squaring your club, ensure you have the longest hand facing the target. You have a better chance of getting the club squared to the target if you stand open.

After you have verified that your club line is straight, align your body so that your hips, shoulders, and stance are in alignment with the target. You can then place one hand on the grip, and give your club head light pressure.

2. Enjoy a simple one-piece takeaway

Be aware of the natural triangle formed between your arms and clubhead. The triangle that is formed between your arms, the club head and the golf grip should be visible. The goal of this exercise is to bring the triangle back to your target. You should not try to force your wrists into cocking at any point. If your grip pressure feels light, these may cock easily towards the end. Your mind’s only focus should be on a smooth, steady rhythm.

3. You can keep the flex of your right knee

You must make sure your right knee is straightened as you approach the top of your backswing. You can avoid this by setting up your address at an angle with your right knee bent and tilting it slightly towards the ball. For the entire swing, keep this tilt inward.

4. Your legs are the leader of the Downswing.

Start your downswing by slightly moving the left knee toward the target. You will experience club headlag, where your wrists rest on the backside of the ball. Keep in mind the “butt” of the shaft to the back of your ball. This will ensure that you get a crisp, powerful impact from the ball by delivering a late release.

5. Think rhythm

Try to imagine the swing of your favorite pros and create a rhythm while you’re swinging your golf clubs. Only think of the rhythm they use and try to copy it. One swing thought is all that will make you swing your club smoothly and powerfully.

Let’s summarize: Develop a pre shot routine which incorporates square alignment and some waggles. You can swing the triangle with light grip pressure, and then turn your back towards the target. Begin the downswing using the guidance of your legs. You will finish the swing in equilibrium. The most important swing concept to remember is “rhythm”.

You will be able to stop breaking natural movements into their individual parts. It will surprise you how consistent and accurate it is to hit the ball with every club in your bag.
