There is a famous golf exercise known as the PGA swing slow motion drill. It involves the golfer holding the club with both hands and swinging the club back and forth like a golf club. The motion of the backswing and downswing of the golf swing are held for as long as possible. While this may seem to be slow, with practice it will make a big difference in the quality of your shot and you will be able to improve the speed of your swing.
When doing the PGA swing slow motion drill, make sure that your setup is perfect. Your grip, posture, and stance should all be right. The key to doing this properly is to have your left foot forward of the ball. In other words, do not put your right foot in front of the left foot when you take the club back. Your toes should point a fair distance away from the ground when you take the club back.
You should have your hands set deep in your pockets. Having your hands too high or too low on your golf clubs is a big mistake that many new golfers make. Hinge your hands so that they are slightly bent back toward your body with your fingertips pointing down the shaft.
When you begin your backswing, keep your left arm straight without turning it. As the club begins to swing, you will lift the left wrist up a little so that your clubhead remains pointed right down the shaft of the club. This will allow you to focus on the ball. Make sure to rotate your hips as well. This helps to get more power behind your swing and makes your follow through more consistent and powerful.
When you reach the top of your follow through, it is time to turn your head to the side so that your eyes look over your shoulder. As the club begins to move downward, you can begin to relax the shoulders and arms. It is important to feel loose in your core. This helps you to create a nice release through impact of the ball.
You should always take your time with your swing. The less you swing your golf club back, the easier your follow through will be. To do this, focus on letting the club move naturally. As you bring the club back down, you should do the same thing, letting the club move naturally without you having to try and do it. This can make your backswing smoother as well as improve your follow through.
Many times a new or less experienced golfer will reach over their shoulder and hit the golf ball with the pike’s head. If this is done, the clubface will meet the ball in a closed position, resulting in a hook or slice. If you keep your head still, head right and your hands low, you will have a chance at avoiding slice shots and hitting the ball with a little more power. Your goal is to have the ball-striking low on its flight, and not lifting so high that you are not hitting the ball properly.
Lastly, remember to always keep your left arm high, with your pinky finger pointing up. Remember to keep the golf club moving in the right direction, with the shaft pointing straight down the shaft. Make sure you swing smoothly from top to bottom. With some practice, this should become very natural, and the golf swing should come naturally. The best part is that you should not need any special equipment to make this happen.
