Golfers can swing as hard and as far as they like when their bodies are used correctly.

The hips move in a lateral direction from left-to-right on the upswing. On the downswing, the hips make a right-to left lateral movement. Because rotational movement of the hips is very limited, the body can move this way without any pain.

The hips are essentially a side to sides motion. Your shoulders turn your hips in the backswing, and your right knee turns your hips in the downswing.

To control the direction, release the club head at the top of your swing. The right knee is used to direct the movement. You can actually relieve any strain on your lower back by using your right knee.
