If you want to reduce the score you are posting, I recommend that you improve your thinking as you practice and also when you play.
Your practice will improve your ability to think clearly and help you understand what your body is doing when you hit the ball. You can improve your game by learning how to score from 50 yards. This will also help you train your body for these simple swinging shots.
Be realistic about how you plan your shots so that your ability to play every shot on the green is improved. You should avoid hitting drivers that are more likely to cause you trouble than they can fix. Maybe dropping to the fairway wood can still lead you into similar trouble. You might be in trouble if you drop down to a fairway wood. Use the same mentality when approaching shots. Play safe, predictable shots to reduce your scores. Think like a chessplayer.
It may shock you to learn that two 5 irons can get you to 50 yards from most par fours, and maybe even further than the greens on the shorter ones. It may surprise you to see how much you can swing from as little as 50 yards.
You might consider laying down short of the green, chipping on and hitting the ball well. This would prevent you from getting into trouble with a bunker or lake. A good shot at getting par or even birdie is possible if your chipping and pitching skills are excellent.
This game is all about thinking. If you can improve your thinking, your ability to play will increase.
