Although there are plenty of lists that list the top restaurants, hotels, golf courses, and attractions in Ireland, I prefer to use the individual experience as the guide.
This isn’t about determining if the hotel is 5-star or 2-star. It would only be possible to measure all 5-star Irish hotels. This simplifies and invalidates the task. Value for money should be a major consideration when making judgments.
A hotel must deliver on its promises, no matter if it is for leisure or business reasons. A hotel should deliver on its promises. If you’re not satisfied with the real reality of your hotel stay, it is no point having fancy websites touting the advantages and facilities. Like any business, staff are important.
My extensive travels throughout Ireland have been in business and leisure modes. These two perspectives are completely different when it comes to evaluating accommodation. Here’s my list of Top 10 based on my personal memories, feelings and the quality of services provided.
1. Conrad Mount Juliet Thomastown County Kilkenny. The Mc Calmont ancestral home, an old manor house, is now a world-renowned golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has been host to the Irish Open as well the World Matchplay Championship. A state-of the-art Equestrian Centre, as well a stunning spa and leisure center have been recently added. There are luxury lodges on the perimeter of the golf course that can be self-catering. You have access to all of the hotel’s leisure amenities. The hotel has direct access to the sea, and it is known as the Sea Spa because all hydrotherapy treatments use seawater. There is no need for you to have a meal plan if they feed you every day. It is truly a treasure and family owned, as reflected by the exceptional level of customer service.
3. Hilton Mount Wolsey in Tullow County Carlow. Mount Wolsey used to be a stately house that was located east of Carlow. It is just outside Tullow. It is now owned by the Morrisseys and boasts a 4-star resort with a Christy O’Connor-designed golf course, leisure center, spa, as well as a Christy O’Connor-designed tennis court. It is a great location with quick access to Dublin, making it a popular weekend getaway choice for residents in the capital.
4. Merrion Hotel Merrion Street Dublin 2, Ireland. Four superb Georgian townhouses are joined seamlessly to form this 5-star hotel. They’re conveniently located in Dublin’s centre. 6. Cong Ashford Castle, County Galway. This is the first doyen of Irish hotels, back in a time when there weren’t any high-end resorts. In a less competitive market, it can still hold its own. Cong is a picture-perfect village located on the shores Lough Corrib. Ashford Castle exudes the addictive atmosphere of luxurious luxury at an amazingly affordable price. The hotel’s outstanding service and beautiful, old-world rich decor attract guests to it. Gerry Barrett, of New York recently acquired the hotel. “G”Galway City’s Hotel Fame and Resort offers the best in pampering.
7. Solus Elske Hotel, County Donegal. The only 5-star Hotel in County Donegal was awarded the Irish Hotel of the Year Award 2010. The hotel, located east of Donegal Town has 98 suites. They offer genuine welcome service and lavishness. It is a new market, so the food and facilities are excellent. It is a great base to explore the sprawling county of Donegal. The stunning castle facade is why it’s a very popular location for weddings.
8. Jurys Inn Galway CityJurys Inn Galway lies in Galway’s heart, right next to the Spanish Arch. This hotel is also close to bars, restaurants, and clubs that are all part of the vibrant city. This Jurys Inn is the top-rated chain of Jurys Inns in Ireland for its location, amenities, and, most importantly, the service. It is great for leisure and business, but also very economical for families. This hotel is a great all-rounder in an excellent location in one of the best cities in Ireland.
9. Mespil Hotel on Mespil Street Dublin 4.. This 3-star property is a great deal and delivers a punch above its weight. The Mespil Hotel is chosen because of its location and affordability. It is located in a beautiful location on the Grand Canal and it is a short walk from all of the main attractions such as Grafton Street or Stephens Green. It is a great choice for a capital visit, with its modern decor and Wi Fi rooms.
10. Osprey Hotel & Spa, Naas County Kildare Recently opened, the Osprey 4-star hotel is well-respected for its excellent facilities and quality accommodations. There are 104 rooms, including apartments in the garden. This hotel offers luxury and choice for families and couples. Two restaurants offer different menus and are conveniently situated in Naas’ Devoy Quarter. It feels like a premium boutique hotel, with its intimate setting and elegant design.
