Hobbies
You can probably imagine what your passions are, but you have to be able to step away and try something new.
This is why having more than one hobby can be so helpful. It would make life miserable if everyone did the same thing every day. It can seem like life is simply a series of doing the same things repeatedly. However, it is possible to develop subordinate passions and make them a hobby.
Bridge
There are many hobbies, and there is no shortage of them. However, I have discovered some that are particularly rewarding as a musician.
The game of bridge is my passion, other than music. Being able to collaborate with musicians is an amazing thing. It’s easy to make close friends from people who work alongside you or share your top passion.
Most bridge players talk only about bridge. Let me tell you about a personal experience that illustrates the kind of bond bridge players have.
Martin and I created a bridge partnership. Our partnership was very successful, and we enjoyed our games together. While I was leaving for yet another tournament, Martin asked my wife what his last name was. I was embarrassed to say that I did not know. He was then asked his profession. Once again, I was forced to admit I didn’t really know. It was a surprise to her that I would spend so much time together, including traveling to other cities in order for tournaments. But, she didn’t know the basic facts. My best explanation was that we only talked about bridge, and how we could improve our partnership.
Martin eventually came over to our table and my wife was then able to discover these answers.
The Hobbies A Musician can Enjoy
Here are some other activities that could be enjoyed as hobbies, or even addictions.
- Golf;
- Reading;
- Animals such as dogs, shows and other dog-related activities;
- Plays;
- Concerts;
- Driving
- Skiing.
This is certainly not an exhaustive list, however musicians can often be found performing these types of things and still enjoying them.
Conclusion
It doesn’t matter if musicians sound different than anyone else, it does not mean that they don’t have some human characteristics.
