Five major senior championships are currently played, including The Senior PGA and U.S. Senior Open. The PGA Senior Championship was founded in 1937. The U.S Senior Open followed in 1938 by The Tradition and Senior players during the 1980’s. In 2003, the Senior British were recognized. These events are open to senior golf pros and amateurs from around the globe.
LPGA women recognizes four championships annually: Kraft Nabisco (McDonald’s U.S. LPGA presented in Coco-Cola), U.S. Women’s Open, Ricoh Women’s British Open, and U.S. Women’s Open. 1969 saw the introduction of the first non-American player to the LPGA. Her name was Vivien Sunders, a British player. The LPGA currently has 26 participants. In 2003, the Women’s Senior Golf Tour began. It later became the Legends Tour. LPGA Legend Tour attracts women aged 40-55 years and older. The media are all aware of this well-publicized event.
Senior golf isn’t just for males. Many women play professionally as well as men. No matter whether you are a professional or an amateur golfer, there is no set gender for who can play. Women have proven that they are capable of completing and ensuring the most difficult golf courses, just as men. The LPGA’s top players have been awarded some impressive prizes and gone on to be professional seniors golfers who offer instruction to novices as well as those looking to improve their game. Canada’s Lorena Ochoa won the Vare Trophy and player of the year in 2006 while Seon Hwa of Korea was awarded the Rookie award. …
