We will be discussing the grip for golf. This article is not about specific grip styles. Instead, we will be discussing golf grip philosophy. We’ll be discussing what just a small amount of lotion can tell you about golf grip philosophy.
My friend and I played a round last week. We had looked at several discounted tee times and found one that was a fantastic deal on a course. It made us all so excited to go for the round. This was one of those hot days when the humidity took over, and bugs soon followed. The mosquitoes took over the course that day. Many people left the course due to mosquito infestations. The group in front of us actually left the course, which allowed us to enjoy a faster round.
Because one of my partners was armed with bug spray, we didn’t have to go off the course. “Off”. On the fifth hole each one of us put in a great deal of effort. “Off”We kept going, despite having a harem full of mosquitoes around us.
My driving skills were terrible for the first five holes. Although I drove the ball straight, it wasn’t going as far as usual. While I drove it left-right, the way to the fairway felt like searching for the needle in a haystack. Tiger Woods said it often: “I had a two-way miss.”Although Tiger Woods may be a better golfer than me, I’m still learning.
On the fifth hole I used the bug spray to repel the mosquitoes. The mosquitoes are extremely annoying and you would not think to thank them for their existence. However, this was the case. Here’s why.
After applying sun-tan lotion to your hands, you will notice that they are all slippery and greasy. My primary concern as I approached sixth hole, which is a long par-4, was that the club wouldn’t fly into my face.
My grip on the golf club was tight. Despite all the repellent in my hands, my tight grip made it more slippery. It felt more like the club would fall out of my hands the tighter I gripped it. I loosen my grip, but kept it tighter. To keep the golf club in my hands, I moved the ball slower, and had more control.
What was the result? Straight down the fairway, I made the longest drive of my day.
Golf lessons often teach us to handle the golf club gently and lightheartedly, just like you would with an egg. You are also advised to keep your distance and swing with control. This advice is often ignored even though we may think that we are. Swinging is out of control because the grip is too tight.
This was the day I found out that mosquitoes were my only option for a proper grip. Try putting some lotion on your hands if you want to improve your golf swing and grip. This lotion might be just the thing to heal your golf grip.
