We will be discussing the grip for golf. There are no particular grip types. We will instead discuss golf grip philosophy. In particular, we will discuss what lotion applied to your hands can reveal about the golf grip.
My friend and I played a round last week. We had looked at several discounted tee times and found one that was incredibly affordable on a fantastic course. It made us all excited to go for the round. The humidity was overwhelming and the bugs were everywhere. This particular day, all the mosquitoes decided it was time for them to invade the golf course. We saw many people leave the course because of the mosquitoes. The group in front of us actually left the course, which allowed us to enjoy a faster round.
We didn’t need to leave the greens because thankfully, one of our playing partners carried a small bottle of bug spray. “Off”. Each of us put much effort on the fifth hole. “Off”We kept going, despite having a harem full of mosquitoes around us.
My driving skills were terrible for the first five holes. The golf ball was going in the wrong direction. Although I drove the golf ball right and left, finding the fairway was more difficult than finding the needle in the haystack. As Tiger Woods says often, “I had a two-way miss.”While Tiger Woods might be better than Par golfer, I believe that I can still improve my game.
Finally, I applied bug spray everywhere on the fifth hole to stop the bothersome mosquitoes. Although mosquitoes can be extremely bothersome, one wouldn’t think that it was possible to be grateful for them. But, on the day I did, they were. I’ll tell you.
Your hands will become greasy and slippery just like when you use sun tan lotion. As I approached the 6th hole (a par 4), my main concern was to not let the club fall out of my hands into the faces of any of my friends.
My grip on the golf club was tight. Despite all the repellent in my hands, my tight grip made it more slippery. It felt more like the club would fall out of my hands the tighter I gripped it. I relaxed my grip but kept the club in my hand. To keep the golf club in my hands, I moved the ball slower, and had more control.
What was the result? Straight down the fairway, I made the longest drive of my day.
In golf lessons, we are often taught to hold the club lightly and gently. This is similar to how you might handle an egg you don’t want to crack. You are also advised to keep your distance and swing with control. Even if we believe we’re following the advice, it is still not true. Swinging is out of control because the grip is too tight.
This was the day I found out that mosquitoes were my only option for a proper grip. Try putting some lotion on your hands if you want to improve your golf swing and grip. This lotion might be just the thing to heal your golf grip.
