Vanuatu is an idyllic, beautiful collection of islands with lush green vegetation located just off the New Zealand/Australia coasts. White sandy beaches with clear waters border the islands, which are home to the Pacific’s most varied marine life. There are many things you can do in Vanuatu, but none is more exciting than the Yasa volcano tour on Tanna. You can only stand at the summit of a volcano in this area. It is incredible to see fireballs shoot from the volcano at night. It’s easy to mistakenly think you might be on another world.
Port Vila’s nightlife is lively on Melanesian feast nights. Traditional dance and delicious food make up the heart of Melanesian feast night celebrations. You will be swept away by the sounds of local musicians, while enjoying kava (a local beer) and a delicious meal. You won’t find kava intoxicating. But, if it is, don’t consume any more than 4 shells (50% vatu). Also, leave at least 15 minutes between each shell.
There are many things to do throughout the day. Vanuatu’s clear waters and marine diversity make it one of the finest fishing destinations you can have. The Easter Challenge Fishing Competition is held every Easter. If you’re ever in Vanuatu, make sure you enter it. It is great fun. There are many relaxing options on the island, including deep sea diving, snorkeling, dolphin swimming, horseback riding, and even horseback riding along beautiful sandy beaches.
You can also take cross-island tours on a bus, helicopter or buggy. If you don’t like the sea, there are many options. There are several great golf courses at the resorts of Vanuatu for anyone who wants to take a swing.
Festival season is June through September, when islanders really come alive. The Rom Dance is an annual community event that celebrates the traditional Rom dance. It is an eerie performance hidden under a cloak. The Rom is performed to rhythmic music by the Tam Tam, which is the most powerful standing instrument in the entire world. You should also attend the Nagol or land diving festival in April and June, Fanla Arts Festival, Pankumo Festival of Circumcision in August (an ancestral rite of passage of men to boys) and Maewo Special Cultural Festival September.
Vanuatu offers a relaxing getaway on a gorgeous island with local customs. You will never forget your trip to Vanuatu, and you won’t be disappointed if you do return.
