VenturaCountyWest: Hitting the Links

Choose from five public golf courses with spectacular ocean and mountain views in the cities of VenturaCountyWest–Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura. They are all about one hour north of Los Angeles but can feel like a million miles away when they’re paired with the local pubs or restaurants.

Ventura

Pete’s Breakfast House Restaurant offers a delicious breakfast, with buttermilk pancakes or homemade strawberry jam. Get there early to enjoy a warm and satisfying meal. Play a round of golf on the Olivas Links in the morning., Forrest Richardson designed this 18-hole championship course of golf. The winner of the “Best Golf Facility” award. “Best Municipal Golf Course in the Nation”The last three-years have been by Week in GolfThe 6,818-yard layout of this course has a rolling links style. It is defined by natural habitat and seaside grasses. Buenaventura, which is adjacent to the course, could be a good choice. It measures just over 6000 yards and has a par 70. This course emphasizes the importance of good course management. This course takes you back to 1930s design and features. This will be an difficult decision.

Relax at Aqua Beachfront Bar for lunch. The Aqua Beachfront Bar is located at Crowne Plaza Hotel. It overlooks the ocean and, as its name suggests, right on the shore. Enjoy the afternoon sun, or hire a bike to take a spin along the coastal bike path. The Greek at Harbor offers the most delicious Mediterranean meals. Next, enjoy a comedy routine at Ventura Harbor Comedy Club.

Oxnard

An early start to the day is Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut breakfast, which can be found just one block away from Oxnard Beach. Next, you will head onward to River Ridge where there are two excellent courses. The Vineyard boasts stunning views of the ocean, and Victoria Lakes has beautiful water features. Greg Norman hybrid Bermuda greens are also available.

The Mullin Automotive Museum is a great side trip to take after golf. The museum celebrates Art Deco motoring design. It is open on Saturdays and features award-winning Bugattis and Voisins as well as Dealges, and many other French automobiles from the 20s through the 40s. In the evening, Mexican seafood, homemade tortillas and tasty margaritas are on the menu at Cabo Seafood & Grill.

Camarillo

Camarillo. To complete your golfing vacation, choose one of these two courses. The lush citrus and avocado groves surround Sterling Hills, Camarillo. Natural features are incorporated into this 18-hole championship golf course. Camarillo Springs lies at Conejo Mountain, near the 101 freeway. Ted Robinson created the view, with its towering rock formations and natural springs.

Enjoy a weekend of relaxation before you head home. “blarney burger”One of the 14 beers available at Brendan’s Irish Pub, Camarillo. This restaurant is relatively new and it’s operated by two Irishmen. They have made the setting as good as any of Ireland’s best pubs.
