Ever seen the sort of ball flight that starts out low but then rises to an elevation, and then falls to the ground, at the desired target or close to it?
This is called trajectory. This is the flight pattern for the golf ball. Variables can include the type of club head position while in impact. You can achieve any type of ball flight if you know how to do it correctly.
This is the place to be. ” magic “This is it.
Let’s take an example. The ball has been driven well along the fairway. The ball is in your hands and you are about 150 yards from the green. The wind is blowing in your direction, and not behind you.
The green slopes away from you and has a slight elevation. The green is slightly elevated and sloped away from you. It would be great to have the ability to spin the ball once it hits the ground. Because of wind, you choose one more club than usual and decide to strike the ball down in order to keep the ball out of wind and add spin to it.
OK, so that is the set up.
How do you achieve that shot? All you weekend players will know the answer. But most people wouldn’t be able to do it. The club would balloon higher if you swing hard, released the club earlier in the downswing, and it would be harder to hit the ball high. It was a pitifully low green ball, which now calls for a superb chip shot and great putt.
But you are able to accomplish it.
But it’s not quite true. The little bit of doubt that you have prevents you actually following through with the plan. So you revert. You revert back to your comfort zone. You are not willing to take the shot you can.
Let’s find out why. Most likely, you know the steps. It has probably been shown on television hundreds of times. You’ve probably played with other people who could hit the shot. It is possible. However, you don’t know what it takes to do it.
You probably also know of, or have a copy. ” The Little Red Book”
Harvey Penick wrote the following. He was loved by all the great players from the PGA Tour. Harvey’s magic move was the chapter that took the longest. This move has absolutely nothing to do magic but if done correctly, it will seem magical.
It sounds wild doesn’t it?
You should know that I don’t promote Harveys book and I do not try to steal his thunder. It’s not secret. It is a magic move. This is a must-have move for every player. It’s a must for any good player.
What a fun way to get to know people.
All it comes down to angles. Your ability to swing the ball well or poorly will be determined by your angles. This will determine how far the ball can be hit and how frequently you use a square face at impact.
Okay, Harvey Penick has said it, but not exactly: The magic move actually consists of two movements, dropping the right elbow on the right side, and moving your left hip left to the left.
This is probably the most powerful magic I have ever seen. It just ends too soon. You can do a lot of this by dropping your right elbow on to your right. Although it’s easier to say, it can be much more difficult to practice it. However, it’s absolutely true.
Is it possible for your right elbow and right hip to be dropped to the ground and everything else to move in the right way?
Answer: You need to use your body in order to release the clubhead.
This is the place to find magic. You will see your body drive your swing with ease and power when you let your angles stay in place and do not allow them to be released too soon. ” hit “The golf ball.
Set up by placing your right hand against your left. Only a little. However, it should be enough to feel the difference. To make an impact, you will have to feel it.
Now bend your right hand and push against the thumb of your left thumb. You can now turn your back (body) to the backswing, while still feeling that push in your right.
At first, take a minnie swing. Your body will go further down the swing if it is faster. This feeling of pushing with your right hand must be maintained throughout the swing. These movements are not performed with your hands.
Your arms and hands should feel relaxed.
Your right wrist should be bent so you can set an important angle. It is only one angle but it is very important. Others call this lag.
You will be able to strike like magic with this move. It’s the only move good players all share. It can be difficult to spot. It’s a feeling. It is not something visual.
This is what you should do when chipping.
This skill allowed me to alter the ball’s trajectory at will. Florida has wind, which is why I am able to change the trajectory of my ball’s flight often. There is nothing like pulling out an extra club and keeping the pace low while spinning it to perfection. There is nothing quite like it. This is possible. You can do this too.
It is one magical move. There are also three more.
It’s worth a try. This is not magic; it’s just a good technique.
