Kansas Golf Vacations- Wolf Creek Golf Course

Wolf Creek Golf Links, Inc., Olathe, Kansas, was where I played a match for the Kansas City Cup. It is a beautiful course. Although we won the match which could have made the experience even better, I wanted to share my thoughts about the course as it was fresh in my memory.

Wolf Creek will be an interesting experience for anyone who doesn’t already know it or hasn’t heard about it. It is strictly a men-only club. It is a men’s club, which means there are literally no women. Men are the bartenders. Men are the cart girls. There is always a man around. Although it is a bizarre experience, I believe some people seek that type of environment.

Because it’s only open to men, it makes for a unique golf course. It is also 100% private, except during events such as the KC Cup where it allowed us to play due the layout. While I am not sure of the exact fees required for membership, I can tell you that the course is quite long.

Although it is located in Olathe Kansas, the course is quite isolated. It’s located in Olathe in the south, in the middle a few fields. It offers great solitude and great golf experience.

The drive up to the golf course isn’t as intimidating as it might be at other places. It is not extravagant or shabby, and the clubhouse itself isn’t too small. A bar is available, along with a locker and dining area. I also saw a table at the poker table, which was located back in a large room that had many gentlemen, playing what I assume to be friendly. Although the course is secured, it does not seem as exclusive as some people believe.

Two reasons I believe clubhouse and facilities have such a small size are: First, there are only men in the clubhouse. How extravagant can it be? Doesn’t that make it more cool than just being a member of an all-male golf course? The second reason is the beautiful course. It appears all their money goes to maintaining the course and improving it.

It was very pleasant to start at the range. They have grass and a lot of balls at every station. There are also a few bags with range balls that can be used for what seems like a whole bunch of t-shirts. The range had several flag sticks that you could reach at different distances. It was in perfect condition.

A couple of putts are a must if you play this course. Beautifully cut greens, they are both fast and stable. The greens are very fast and roll well, although it takes some time to get used to. Truthfully, I felt the greens were only marginally faster the day that we played. However, I believe that it was due to the fact we were playing so early in season. It was the middle part of the season, and I could clearly see them running at lightning speed.

There is plenty of undulation on the course, but there are also many holes with very little undulation. The par threes I liked the most were the one on the front nine and the one on back. It was slightly downhill, with water on the left and right sides of the green. (Everyone missed it long enough to leave – it’s a funny thing). Par three is located high above the tee box, before taking a steep descent to reach the green. This is an amazing looking tee shot.

Overall, the course received a rating of 9/10. It was a fantastic course from the tees to the green. I enjoyed it immensely. It was only a 10, because of the wow factor. One of my competitors was an ex-all-star major league pitcher, which was great – and also a good golfer. The course was very well-designed, and I left feeling the same as any other golfer.
