Here are 7 top tips to prevent and treat shoulder pain

Your Saturday started with 18 holes, followed by an afternoon spent trimming and pulling out weeds. You can’t even lift your arm enough to wash your hair. You have every right to balk. Your shoulders are very busy throughout the day. Your shoulders are responsible for many daily tasks such as writing and turning the doorknobs. The most flexible joints within your body are your shoulders. Your arms have a wide range of movement because they combine with many tendons and muscles. You feel like you are carrying the entire world’s weight on your shoulders. It’s not enough to just smile and carry the pain. These are some quick relief tips you might want to try.

1. Get Moving

You can prevent another shoulder injury from happening, regardless of whether you’re a weekend warrior or serious athlete. You can have a qualified coach, trainer, or personal trainer identify what is wrong with your form or technique, and correct it.

2. Check Your Flexibility

The ability to lift your arms up overhead should allow you to reach both the side as well as the front. This is a good idea to practice until you are able to do these moves easily. You can also practice reaching behind your head to unhook a bra. Don’t strain your back.

3. Limit Lifting

You should also avoid lifting heavy objects if your shoulder hurts. A good rule of thumb: don’t lift more than a bag or one gallon of milk.

4. Stretching

Your shoulder’s rehabilitation will be easier if you do gentle stretching exercises and range-of motion exercises. They help restore and increase flexibility. This move will keep your shoulder flexible and loose. To move the sore shoulder towards the opposite side, place the elbow on your right shoulder. Now, pull your arm in the direction you want by putting the other hand on the elbow. Feel the stretch at the back of the shoulder. For at least fifteen seconds, hold the position. You should repeat this at least 3 times per day.

5. Resign from what you are doing

You should stop doing a certain activity if it is causing pain to your shoulder. You should avoid reaching above or behind your head, as this can worsen the pain.

6. Take a bow with ice

Ice can be used to reduce swelling in the shoulder for the first few days. A freezable gel packet, available at a pharmacy, is recommended. You can wrap the pack in a small towel, and place it on your shoulder. To hold it in place, you might also use an elastic bandage to secure it. You should leave it on for less than twenty minutes.

7. It’s Time To Change To Heat

After the swelling has subsided, heat can be used to treat your shoulder pain. You can loosen your stiff shoulder by using heat. It is important to make sure you are using moist heat (such as a hot shower) and not dry heat (such as a heating pad).
